For some reason, Abbess Linarrie couldn't get down any of her breakfast. What was happening? It wasn't like she was full - nor was she hungry - but usually breakfast was something she enjoyed daily. She managed to eat a waffle, and drank a cup of cold mint tea, before she started to get up and help with the tidying. Most of the Redwallers had finished their breakfast, and were now gathering extra plates, scrubbing the table tops, and pushing the chairs in. When the Great Hall looked as it had before breakfast, the creatures started heading out of the hall, chatting and laughing. Abbess Linarrie spotted Maycall gazing across the room, and she smiled. Aigryus and Senelisia were probably already on their way, and she would meet them later on during the search. Now it was her turn. She left the Great Hall, and followed the small pathway. She turned left as the path reached a fork, and didn't stop until the Abbey Pond came into view. If there are clues left in the pond, where would they be? And is it possible that anyone would leave anything in the pond, anything that's not natural? Yes, she answered for herself. That happened, though usually the things that were left or forgotten weren't in the pond. However, this was different. Whoever had written that warning hadn't forgotten anything. If he or she had left anything here, it was probably on purpose. Abbess Linarrie scanned the other side of the huge pond. She would walk its perimetre, and later on, she could take a boat, the ones that the Redwallers used when fishing, and search the waters. Abbess Linarrie had a liking for water, and hoped that the gentle movements of the pond would help her relax, and think.

Aigryus was incorrect when he hinted that Senelisia wanted to search places that contained food. The badger had merely quoted the names, and it had turned out inconveniently to be what she had chosen. Senelisia had eaten her breakfast quickly, though not too fast, or she might feel a bit funny afterwards, and she teased the Dibbuns a bit so that they would leave her alone for a while. She did her daily routines, of which every other Redwaller did (helping gather the cutlery and everything else), and decided that her first destination would be the Kitchens, which was the closest to where she was now. Senelisia followed one of the assisstants into the hallway, and they both turned left at the first turn. There was a door there, and they entered that. The kitchen wasn't as bustling and as loud as it usually was before each meal. Most of the helpers here were just helping to clean everything up. Usually, the badger would just pitch in and help, but today she consoled herself by telling herself that she'd do all that after she'd search the kitchens. Senelisia walked around the kitchens, trying not to draw attention to what she was doing. She opened cupboards, pretending that she was looking for something that she had lost - in fact, she was looking for something - and once she reached a set of windows, she checked to see if there were any signs of something hidden there. Most of the assistants were leaving now, going to their other chores, and Senelisia was left to feel her paws on the tables. Her plan was to check if there was any secret "compartments" embedded in the wood, though it seemed very improbable that there was any. The badger grew excited when she felt an uneven spot on a table where the bowls were put on, but it was only a small bump on the table. In fact, this table had quite a lot of bumps on it.
