He had stood outside listening long enough to hear that Bigfang was suddenly the second-in-command. He threw a look of disgust at Bigfang, then at Ripjaw, but hid it immediately. "Ripjaw, you made this coward your right paw? The coward who ran away in the heat of battle, taking about 20 fighters with him? The coward who ran from fear of the Redwallers." Wraith said this entire speech without raising his voice, or even turning toward Bigfang to see his reaction. He was, however, getting ready to slide his paw across his belt, and pull out his dagger hidden there if an attack was made on him. "I retreated to the camp to inform the captain of our group of the danger we were fighting. Following orders is not being a coward." His voice was never raised in anger, but low, shaking the tent. Blade spoke up, his silence broken just like that. ''You retreated to inform your captain? Or perhaps, did you not feel you could beat your opponent so you just ran away like a babe?'' What Blade was doing couldnt be classified as defending Bigfang, but he was helping the other fox. A devilish grin changed the former Juska's features as he looked at the much larger animal, ''Is it possible that this big bad, badger wasso afraid of his enemy that he left? Is it possible?'' He winked at the badger, then the grin faded from his lips and he turned back to the other fox, ''You, my friend, should not be speaking about cowardice.'' Now, he was done helping out Bigfang and his next target was the fox. ''Hold your tongue when you speak about this coward.'' He c.ocked his head towards Wraith, ''Because you yourself are a coward, too.'' He took a step backwards so he had Bigfang on his left, and Wraith on his right. He turned his attention back to Wraith, ''You know, Wraith.. Your quiet tone can easily mask your fears. Are you afraid, Wraith? Afraid of being discovered for what you truly are? A coward? Afraid you wont be as respected among the horde?'' Blade spat at the badger's feet, and closed his mouth. He clenched and unclenched his hands, listening as his knuckles cracked, ''Well... Are you?'' So you have no real right to say he saw something he wasn't a part of. bic: Wraith raised himself to his full massive height. He stood at least a half a head taller than all other badgers, and was more skilled than any of them. What is the point of this conversation again? he thought to himself. Wraith held out his paw toward Bigfang, open, to shake. "Why are we arguing over cowardice? We could serve this "horde" much better fighting than arguing." He narrowed one eye at Bigfang. "I don't ever remember seeing you before, and I knew who everybeast was in Frostclaw's horde. I don't know who this "Halfstripe" you speak of is." "It's true, I wasn't in the horde, but I'd head about them, and I'd heard that Arrowbrush was there, you know, that squirrel? I wanted revenge on her for what she'd done to me seasons ago.." And you could try to kill me where I stand, but it would not have any effect. All it would achieve is death of any bystanders." Wraith saw the obvious skill level in this fox that stood before him, but not enough to match him. But if they fought, even if he didn't die, this fox could inflict grievous damage on him. The only reason he would get into a fight with this fox was if Blade attacked him. "But were you too weak to kill a goodbeast? Is that why you had to run? The only reason a Taggerung leaves his Juska clan is if he is driven out or leaves because he did something wrong." Wraith knew he was treading on dangerous ground, but continued anyway. It was no secret that this badger was a veteran. A killer, obviously, and his strength Blade could most definitely not match. But strength means nothing, Blade always thought. It's the level of skill. He wouldn't know the victor if the two fought, but he did know it would most likely be close, possibly Wraith even being the victorious one. Either way, Blade would give the badger something to remember him by. ''Not have any affect?'' Blade laughed. His mind was racing. Was this badger getting angry? Was Blade annoying him? Was the fox even in any danger? ''You seem all talk and no action. All bark and no bite. ''I could kill anyone in this room, right now. Bigfang... Ripjaw... You...'' His eyes flashed with a certain flame, and he took a step back, a growl forming on his face, ''Too weak to kill a goodbeast? How about not willing to kill an innocent? An unarmed opponent? Killing a beast that cant defend hisself is cowardice. You, badger, I bet have killed many defenseless beasts. If you're so strong, why dont we have a spar? A go? A duel? We could use staves so I wouldn't hurt you. Fists if you would like, even. You name it.'' "You are very arrogant, arn't you? Well, the chief and I have to discuss our plans, so clear out, both of you. I-" A blade, seeming to come from nowhere, suddenly pinned his left tunic sleeve to the table as he sat down, shocking him. He looked up to the eneterace, a smile forming on his face once more as he saw who it was. "Rhian.." The pretty golden vixen who had thrown the dagger stood in the doorway, staring disdainfully at Bigfang. "Shut your mouth, Bigfang," she said cooly. "You think too much of yourself as it is." she swiched her attention to Ripjaw. "Chief, I don't know why you appointed Bigfang. Personally, I think Blade would be a much better second-in-command." Finally setting down his second robin, the ferret consulted Blade and Wraith, "Enough o' dis nonsense we 'ave 'ere! If chu two wanna fight it out, do some place else. An' Blade, you're a vary noice fighta probably, so Ah wanna keep chu intact fer some fightin'. But chu and Wraith--" Ripjaw pointed a dirty claw at the badger without even looking at him, "--need ta stop teh fightin' or scram!" Ripjaw leaned back and sighed. He needed to get some trust from all of his hordebeasts before things began getting out of hand. But somewhere down deep, Ripjaw felt that he could not trust this other fox very much. Scanning over their old conversation before Wraith barged in, he noticed that he could not stay up to real Taggerung stats. Maybe he was just another goody-two-shoes that was just playing around with his head. She closed her eyes, concentrating, and after a moment, took out a something wrapped in leaves from a bag behind her. After unfolding it, she dipped the contents into the pot, and stirred it. A strong and faintly bitter smell rose from the pot, and she sat back, content. Some one approached her from behind. Without moving, she said, "Did some vermin appoint themselves leader, and is now callin' for their captains?" The vermin behind her froze, and muttered something. Selvarn spun around, and the vermin, a stoat jumped and yelped. Without waiting for him to answer, she stood up, and gathered the contents of the pot into a small flask, putting it into the bag she had with her. I might as well join the fun as see what's happening around here these days. she thought. The ferret could tell that a others were already inside the tent, and from what she knew of vermin, they were probably arguing, threatning eachother, and all trying to appear as if they were the best of the best. She smiled. And wasn't she such a hypocrite. Before striding into the tent, Selvarn called a "Good day" to anyone who might be hiding outside the tent listening to what was going on inside, but not entering themselves. It was what she had done a few times too. Once inside, her eyes took in what was happening, and she guessed that some of her guesses were true. Even so, she pretended to look genuinely surprised and asked, "What's happening here?"
